North Star Species: Kentucky bluegrass North Star, a low-mow bluegrass, exhibits a very compact, very aggressive spreading growth habit with a very fine blade width. It produces very uniform, very dense turf with a bright, dark-green color and minimal seadheads. An outstanding component for sports turf, for wear tolerance and where an aggressive growth habit is required to repair damage, North Star performs well in a wide range of well-drained soils with a pH range of 5.5–8.0. It is ideal for areas where salinity is a limiting factor, and it performs well at low-to-high rates of Nitrogen. It also has excellent overall disease resistance. North Star is a top bluegrass for both cool-humid and cool-arid zones, and it is an excellent performer when mowed to just 1/2”. It demonstrate strong establishment and sod tensile strength, and it tolerates full sun to moderate shade. It is a truly unique bluegrass for high-use turf—a must for athletic field blends.
